My web mail (BT yahoo) used to allow me to "open" or "save" e-mail attachments. It now does forces me to save the file to my documents (or desktop) before I can open it. This happens even with common files such as Word (.doc) files and Excel files. I am using Windows XP and can still open attachments directly if I use Internet Explorer for web mail, so it appears to be a settings problem with Firefox

Hi,

You can try to adjust the Action in Tools (Alt + T) > Options > Applications for the different file types. If the problem persists, please try deleting the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox Profile Folder after exiting Firefox. You can also open the profile folder via Firefox Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information > Show Folder.

Firefox Profile Folder & Files

If all fails, you could consider the Reset Firefox feature via Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information.

Firefox can't handle Word documents internally and will always offer to save them.
