The physical memory used by firefox continue to grow up even when I start closing some tabs. After usually one or two days it crashes. I experimented that on my last computer and I thought it was a RAM problem, then I bought a new computer with 4 times more RAM and I still have this issue. I observe in windows performance monitor that the problem usually begin when firefox physical memory validation reaches around 2800000 to 3000000, then it becomes slow, some page become black until I over objects with mouse, firefox respond slowly and few times after it crashes.

In some rare situation, it stop responding when I close/open a new tab.

Thank you if you can help fixing it.

Hey,

I read the crash reports, and it sounds like you have malware.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Please try running these apps in Safe Mode. You can find instructions on how to boot into Safe Mode in Windows 8 at this site. Hope this helps!

I have installed all these tools and scanned my computer. They all found nothing but some optional PUP (like toolbar or some programs installed accidentally but which are not real virus), but I cleared everything that was detected.

I will see in the following days if it solved the problem and I would not hesitate to update the topic.

Thank for your help.

Hello sidonfack, try to delete the user.js file in your Profile folder, and check it again.

[to open the profile folder go from : Firefox button > Help menu > Troubleshooting Information > under the Application Basics section, click on Show Folder.]

(The user.js file does not exist by default, you can create the file and some programs create the file also.)

thank you

Hi sidonfack

That is a problem with the Flash plugin.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Hi all,

Cleaning all PUP, toolbars and other ... have considerably improved the performance of my firefox, it responds very quickly now, but unfortunately it did not solve the problem because I still have a crash each 2 days. I have submitted the 2 recent crashes report.

The memory monitoring tool shows me that the firefox memory usage keeps growing even when I close firefox tabs one by one. It grows until 2800000 and then firefox becomes slow, when it reaches 3200000 the crash occur. Do you think that a particular web page may cause that? For example by adding hidden object or script (like facebook, gmail chat etc ...) in the pages, and if there is a way to prevent that?

For info, I have deleted user.js. Realplayer and hardware acceleration are disabled but nothing change.

Thank
