program icon not associated to thunderbird or any program
Uninstalled Thunderbird. Desktop icon short cut was left, with no program association. Deleted icon shut down, restarted, then reinstalled Thunderbird. Desktop icon short cut appeared with no program association, also in startup menu Thunderbird program has no association to it. Troubleshoot message reads cannot find %Program%\Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe\

This is where it is on my computer.
- "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe"
It is not in 'Program', it is in 'Program Files'
You can check this by looking in 'Computer' > OS (C:) > Program Files
To change the target:
- right click on Thunderbird shortcut icon and select 'Properties' - does not matter if shortcut on desktop or taskbar or in Program list
- select 'Shortcut' tab
- Target should state where it is, so change this to the correct location. Make sure to include the quote mark at start and end as shown below:
- "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe".
- under 'Start in': it should say "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird"
- click on 'Apply'
- click on 'OK'

Toad-Hall Thank you for the response. I checked what you sent, made sure everything was proper, no luck. I can see the thunderbird application file in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe, the only thing is the icon that should be in front of the file thunderbird.exe does not have a program (Thunderbird in this case) assigned to it. I'm sure if the icon program was assigned to it everything would be fine.
The info I gave in my response tells you how to make all icons open thunderbird.exe.
If you right click on the Thunderbird desktop icon and select 'Properties' then click on the 'shortcut' tab, what does it say under 'Target'?
Does it say :
- (a) "C:\Program\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe"
or
- (b) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe"
it needs to say (b). Have you made sure it says the correct one?
- then check under 'Start in': it should say "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird"
- click on 'Apply'
- click on 'OK'
Does it say all the correct locations? if no then correct them by typing in the correct location.
