I am trying to link my Google Calendar with the Lighting add-on for Thunderbird. I am using Thundrebird 31.0 with Lightning 3.3 and Provider for Google Calendar 0.32. It is being run on 64 bit Windows 8.1.

I have done a search for an answer which included following the instructions in the articles https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-lightning-google-calendar?esab=a&as=aaq and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/996778?esab=a&as=aaq but so far I have been unable to get this working.

I have been able to create a new calendar and have used the private XML address provided by Google for my calendar. The calendar has been created and I can see it on my calendars list in Thunderbird. However I can't see any of my events.

I also can't create any new events. If I create an event the event details form opens up, I click save and close and the form is closed but nothing happens. There is no error message (or any message) but the event doesn't appear and when I check my calendar online the event hasn't been added.

I did receive and email from Google stating that they had blocked access to an application attempting to access my calendar, and in response to this I changed my security settings to allow access. This did not have any effect on my ability to access my calendar.

Hmm, I think the google block may well still be in place.

instead of using XML, try caldav

In lightning create a new calendar (on the network) select caldav from the option enter the location

https://apidata.googleusercontent.com/caldav/v2/[your gmail email address]/events

Unless your regularly offline don't enable offline support

This does not use the provider add-on. When done there will be a dialog pop up telling you lightning or Thunderbird is trying to access your calendar and asking for your gmail password, then another asking if it was ok. First time it happened to me I though it was a browser window, so be warned it is the setup process, be sure to read the dialogs and not block access.

Thanks Matt,

That has helped a bit. I can now get events that I save from lightning to show up and sync with google calendar when I view it online. However I still can't see any events in lightning itself.

It looks like that there is information being shared between Google and Lightning, because on the small calendar (top left on the left hand side bar) showing just the days the days where I have events are bolded, and I can toggle this on and off by unchecking the new calendar. However I can't see any details about any of these events in the main calendar.

Is there a way to fix this?

your the second person (unless this is your second posting) to come here with the issue of invisible items. I will see what I can find out and get back to you. It is probably more than user error and my ignorance of how things work.

But first I will try and replicate it.
