firefox -> options -> search.

also in about:config there is the variable that i cant get rid of

media.navigator.load_adapt.avg_seconds

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

I did the dangerous and did regedit.exe and deleted anything associated with avg. some of the variables had file paths and i presumably locacted the rest of the avg virus. except the " 22:\ " and " 02:\ " locations. But that didn't solve my issue, and i finally went to the fire fox folder, which after a fresh reinstall had avg crap in it. i deleted those and i don't see it right now. but I am doing a scan with hitmanpro just to see what it turns up.
