The disappearing address bar drives me crazy. I always navigate my web pages very quickly and when I'm in an application like Outlook the menus are arranged along the top of the screen, below the "disappearing" address bar. I'm constantly using the selected application's menus, and most of the time I enter the area that makes the Firefox address bar appear. This action slows me down, it's very frustrating. Can I impose a "static" address bar in my preferences somehow???

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Full Screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: Command+Shift+F).

When you are in Full Screen mode, hover the mouse to the top of the screen to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear. You can use one of these to leave Full Screen mode:

  • click the Maximize button (top right corner of the Navigation Toolbar) to leave Full Screen mode
  • click the Full Screen button in the "3-bar" menu button drop-down list
  • right-click empty space on a toolbar and choose "Exit Full Screen Mode"
  • press the F11 key

I don't think you fully understand my dilemma. I understand how to move from full screen to the regular screen and back.

I want to freeze the address bar so that it will always display as it did in earlier versions. Can that change be made?

You can right-click the Navigation Toolbar or the Tab bar (empty space) and remove the tick on "Hide Toolbars" to have the Navigation Toolbar with the location/address bar visible.

This setting is stored in the browser.fullscreen.autohide pref that you can inspect and modify on the about:config page.

If I understand you correctly I right click (blank space) on the address bar or on blank space alongside my tabs and I should see a Hide Toolbars item that is checked. I don't see these words. I'm not very tech savvy so can you either provide me a few more detailed instructions or direct me to a help page that will teach me? Sorry I love FireFox but I hate this disappearing address bar.

Thank you

Sam
