How can I make a local folder in Thunderbird 45.7.0, to put old EML files into for viewing?

As per the question, nothing more then a Local folder, not an email account to sync with, just a simple folder on the hard drive, that I can add EML files from Windows Mail into, for viewing offline.

When I setup TB45.7 it asks for a email to add, cannot use a fake me@me.nowhere account to start a local folder, since TB Requires a working email address, no more false accounts.

Earlier TBs I could do this and add it without testing the account, and it created a email profile and local folders for offline storage.

I cannot setup any email account to this, since all I need TB for is to view old emails stored in EML format.

If you just want to view eml files, select File/Open/Saved Message... and choose the file. To avoid TB testing account credentials, if necessary, put TB in Offline mode from File/Offline/Work Offline. If you manage to create Local Folders, create a subfolder and use drag-and-drop of eml files from your file manager to the subfolder.

OK, so I can add a fake account, type it in, hit continue, then there is a "Manual config" button that shows up after. from there set everything from autodetect and "Done" button should be de-gray'ed.

So now i have the fun of adding in the 20 odd folders, and moving in the hundreds of EML files into them!

so moral of the story is: "Poke'n'Prod till something breaks"

Sorry, didn't see this, but yeah, you are right, i can open them individually via thunderbird.

you might want to install the import export tools add-on and import them all at once. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/
