Hello,

I recently upgraded to Firefox 57.0.1 and using Mac OS 10.11.6. Dragging and dropping some JPEGs from the browser to the desktop creates a file named "url.jpeg" that can't be opened. Preview will give you an error message stating the file is damaged or is a file format that can't be recognized. Right-clicking and using Save Image As won't work but using the Tools>Page Info>Media>Save As option will correctly download the JPEG. Is there a fix where I can always drag and drop to save JPEGs? Thanks.

uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Do Mac Equivalent Then restart system. Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Thanks for the quick response. I edited my original post with greater details and wondering if your fix still applies?

Are you sure your that isn't a Icon holder for the actual jpg? Did you click the icon jpg to see if you actually open the real jpg picture? I've seen this trick from sites to prevent unauthorized jpg captures-where you get a invalid file.

This issue should be fixed in version 58.

Could you test it on beta version? https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/beta/all/

The dragged file can't be opened, however, saving via Tools>Page Info>Media>Save As works.

I'll wait on the next available update to see if the problem is resolved. I should also mention another minor glitch that coincided with the update to 57.0.1- urls that are dragged and dropped from the browser's address field to the desktop show up as Opera icons and not Firefox icons. Previously saved addresses also change to Opera. I don't have Opera installed on my computer.
