Firefox is already running, but not responding? bollocks!
hello. i am trying to open a new window by right clicking on the pinned taskbar item and using "Open new window".
"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window."
the problem is is that i want to open a new window while already having one open. the already opened window is responding just fine. and i don't want to close it or save the session or bookmark all tabs.
only thing i have been able to work around for this is... while in the already opened Firefox window, create a new tab, right-click and move that tab to a new window. i can also right-click a URL and open in new window.
i am on Windows 10 Home. and this issue only started happening after updating Firefox to 66.0.3 (64-bit).
on a side note... the same thing occurs when trying to use the following from the context menu on pinned taskbar item... "Open new tab" "New private window"
and also when directly clicking "Firefox" in the context menu of the pinned taskbar item.
any help is appreciated! thank you!

When you open the first Firefox window. how are you doing it? From a shortcut?
I get the same when I use a shortcut that has the -no-remote flag.
yeah. i have it set it in the target line on the shortcut properties.
i use this because of having multiple versions of Firefox installed. Firefox 52.0ESR is installed, because it still supports Java. which i use online Java apps from time-to-time.
the information for this parameter states, "That means that such instances won't be re-used. " although, it is the only bit i understand from > https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Command_Line_Options#-no-remote
however, this hasn't been an issue in the past. it only became an issue after the most recent Firefox update. without using that parameter, i can have launched only one version at any given time.
i don't entirely understand the option, and just know it lets me have open two different versions of the Firefox browser. if removing the option from one shortcut or the other, then nothing works as expected. as expected, i should be able to have both browser versions launched at the same time and/or can launch both versions in any order.
That is what I had thought. I called for more help.
alrighty.
for now i will just use the move tab work-a-round.
You start Firefox with the -no-remote command line switch.
If this is the case then you won't be able to send data to this instance. You should at least start one Firefox instance without this switch to be able to send links to it. Otherwise you need to drop the link in this Firefox instance (possibly on the new tab + button).
