Gmail says "Some important features may not work in this version of your browser, so you have been redirected to the Basic HTML version. Upgrade to a modern browser, such as Google Chrome. Try standard version anyway. "

When I visit Gmail using Firefox version 8.0 (running w7) I get this message: "Some important features may not work in this version of your browser, so you have been redirected to the Basic HTML version. Upgrade to a modern browser, such as Google Chrome. Try standard version anyway. "

When I click "Try Standard Version Anyway" it works, but for some reason Gmail is saying Firefox 8.0 is not a modern browser. Also, each time I visit Gmail, it returns to the Basic HTML version...baah.

It seems like Google is trying to get you to upgrade to Chrome. I'd rather stick with Firefox, but, Gmail is an important part of my browsing...

I found the fix...browsing around I found this link:

http://www.google.sh/support/forum/p/gmail/thread?tid=627898d83a02180f&hl=en

In Firefox type:

about:config

Filter the results with:

"general.useragent"

Any fields that are BOLD need to be RESET. RIGHT CLICK and RESET each BOLD field.

Worked on my w7 machine!

I am on OSX Lion and have the same Deng Google bookmarks installed. I am also seeing a similar message in Yahoo mail client.

I tried disabling Deng Google Bookmarks, still same results. Thanks for the suggestion, but disabling the Deng Google Bookmarks didn't work.

If I didn't know any better, it sounds like Google is trying to eliminate browser competition, similar to what Microsoft was doing years ago.

BTW, this first happened on my XP based machine @ work, then about 4 days later I noticed the same results on my W7 machine. Since you have seen this happen on OSX Lion, I doubt this problem is related to the OS.

It really sounds like Google is forcing Gmail users to switch to Chrome. BTW, Gmail works fine on Chrome. I hope someone at Mozilla sees this thread and figures out why Google is forcing Firefox users to switch to Chrome.

Worked on my XP machine too!

It reset back to HTML after I made the "ABOUT:CONFIG" changes...I don't know what's resetting these values. I'll take a screen shot.
