I use yahoo-uk as my home page, all today the home page shows a 1/4 screen high,full screen wide white blank section with a loading circle turning and continual internet two way activity, as if adbloc was stopping the loading of an image but yahoo keeps asking for and then trying to load

Yep there is a big Flash ad there. For some reason AdBlock Plus doesn't seem to quite block it. You can try right-clicking on it and selecting "AdBlock Plus: block image". If that doesn't work try reporting the issue on the AdBlock support site - https://adblockplus.org/forum/
