I have Firefox running but I am not using it, i.e I am doing something else on my PC. With no keyboard or mouse input from me, a new tab opens and tries to access a website - usually a dodgy one. e.g. http://static.movizu.com. Fortunately, my web provider's protection or Firefox protection usually stops the command going through to the website. I have done a full scan with Grissoft AVG but this has not removed the problem. Any suggestions? thanks.

Not sure about my Firefox version. Time was when Help\about would show the version of a programme but as programmers keep changing for changes sake, I no longer know where this information is. I am running Win 8.1. As for the plug ins that you list, there were loads of them on my PC when I bought it and I have no idea what half of them do. I do have an Adobe .pdf reader but don't know which one. I am a user with some idea what goes on but I am not a programmer.

Did you run MalwareBytes and AdwCleaner as advised?

Also, anything with Conduit in the name should be viewed as suspicious.

hello, this sounds like a problem possibly caused by adware on your pc.

please go to the firefox menu > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc).
also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there.
finally, run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.

Hi Phillip I have nothing under addons>extnesions.

Looking at programs under control panel, I am always worried that I might delete something only to find out later that it was OK and that I needed it. It you are prepared to help, the ones that I don't recognize are: Internet Helper by Panda Security.

Synaptics Pointing Device Driver AMD Catalyst Install Manager Qualcomm Atheros WLAN and Bluetooth Client Spotify Search Protect, Conduit I have just uninstalled Bing as I never use it.

Thanks for any further help that you can give.

Hi Philip and Edmeister I ran malware bytes and it found more than 100 (can't remember the exact number) suspect objects which I allowed this program to clean up. It is looking a lot better now but as the problem sometimes doesn't happen for a few days, I have not clicked on "problem solved" just yet. I am hopeful though that it has been fixed.

Thanks to both of you in anticipation of a successful outcome.

Hi Philip and Edmeister Well, it has been over a week and no further problems. I guess that it has been fixed.

Again, thanks for your help.
