I have been using Thunderbird to access my Gmail Account for several years but now it wants a password for "winkydb@gmail.com@imap.googlemail.com:"

The password request is: "Enter your password for winkydb@gmail.com@imap.googlemail.com:"

How can I get rid of the extra "@imap.googlemail.com" I can get my email on other devices like an iPhone or when I use a browser to access Gmail The problem only occurs in Thunderbird The error message I get is " Login to server imap.gmail.com failed." I did not edit any of my account info. How can I correct the server name and get rid of the extra @?

when you mess up the account name it truly looks weird hey.

Tools menu (alt+T) > account settings. Locate that account name in the list click it and edit the name to what it should be. (Usually people put the email address in.)

Did you recently change the way you log into gmail/Google to use two factor authentication?

No one said you did, that garbage is used to identify the account, not connect. All I am trying to do is start at the beginning with what appears on the face of it to be a mess and work forward.
Gmail works great in any browser

Not in the slightest bit relevant, unless you knowing your Google account password is relevant. Thunderbird and all mail clients use different ports, servers and protocols to web browsers. If you have enabled two factor authentication or turned off access of "less secure apps" then that will be the true problem. But I have not got that far.

The account settings are the same as they have always been. It is only the password request that asks for the extra "@imap.googlemail.com" The extra "@imap.googlemail.com" does not show up in the account settings. Could this be an effect of malware? Is there anyway to open a new account and save my past emails to it?

I've taken a screen shot of the error message but I don't know how to post it here.
