Firefox Update 39.0 keeps re-prompting "new update 39.0 available" right after installing the update and restarting the browser. How can I turn this off?

After installing the update for Firefox 39.0 for Mac, and restarting the browser, a window keeps popping up re-prompting that same update! It keeps happening over and over, no matter how often I install it, and even after restarting the computer. How can I turn this off without turning off all future update prompts?

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the disk image file to the desktop

Your personal data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data when you uninstall and (re)install or update Firefox.
