I have never experienced this type of continuing issue with Thunderbird in recent memory. Thunderbird regularly crashes when checking my email. The program does not properly recognize emails that have already been POP'd from my server and creates duplicates and then crashes. I have set the program to not check emails when it opens automatically, so it does not crash on opening. However as soon as I POP my emails Thunderbird creates duplicates and crashes. My expert friend says the Thunderbird must be corrupted, so he advises deleting current install and re-install a fresh download. This process appears to be complicated so I would rather not. Please advise your best advice on how to fix this crashing issue.

Thank you, Morrie eisenman

I can't see much from this crash report. May be somebody else can provide more information on it. No bug exists for this crash yet. If this is reproducible you may want to create a new bug in Bugzilla for it. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/

Hi christ1: Thanks for your time on this. The very strange thing is that its intermittent! It was fine all morning POP'd my mail manually several times no problem. Then on one POP it starts crashing as its downloading mail from the server. Also starts duplicating emails that were already pick up before crashing. Then after an unspecified period it starts crashing again. I cannot figure what triggers the issue and I can't figure what makes it stop. I may go to IMAP and see if it goes away. Thanks again for your time. Morrie

The crashing DLL atidxx32 is part of the ATI video driver. So it might be you need to check fro an updated driver from ATI.

You may also find toggling the graphic acceleration in Tools menu > Options > advanced > general may help.

I'd be curious where you spotted 'DLL atidxx32' in the crash reports posted above.

Scroll down it is highlighted is Red. Although on closer examination it is highlighted as it is missing symbols ... my Oops for the day.

I did have a look at the raw dump and I see the issues appears to be in filter processing. I also note you have the filtaquilla and junquilla add-ons installed.

From a diagnostic perspective.

Hold the shift key while starting Thunderbird and continue in safe mode when prompted. Does getting mail cause an issue? Select Compact from the file menu (alt+F). Do you still have an issue? Restart after compact in normal mode. Still have an issue?

IF compacting, which completely rewrites your mail store and removes corruption in the process, does not fix the access violation then disable the filtaquilla add-on and try again.

The process of elimination hopefully will get us to the cause of the crash and hopefully eliminate it. If it turns out to be related to one of those add-ons, perhaps we can get the author involved. But lets see where this goes.

Hi Matt: Here is the really strange element...intermittent! I started work this morning and checked my email...downloads and then crashes 3 times the same thing. Now, 1 hour later, its downloading fine with no crash. I mad no changes at all! I just don't get it, how can this issue come and go with no obvious trigger?

will try your suggestions above as the issue re-occurs. and let you know if it was the filtaquilla. I just compacted so lets see if that helps.

Thanks again! Morrie

You may also try to temporarily disable your filters.

My guess, and it is a guess, is that you have a particular filter that is the root cause. It is probably a filter that is using the FiltaQuilla add on and may well be using JavaScript. Possibly moving the message and then continuing to process it.

Disabling the add-on would be a first step in that direction.
