Firefox crashes on startup, will not start in safe mode. Crash ID: bp-cfce462f-3d16-4dle-ae64-a784e1171022 Hardware: Dell XPS with i7-2600 CPU 3.4GHz 8.00 GP RAM Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit Pro Version 1703 OS Build 15063.674 Latest Windows Update: 2017-10 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4049179) This and the latest Java Update were installed 10/18, subsequently Firefox crashes on startup without fail. I have since uninstalled Java and uninstalled Firefox, then reinstalled Firefox to no avail. PC was restarted after each change. Firefox crashes on startup and will not start in Firefox safe mode.

I just now uninstalled the latest Windows Update for Adobe Flash Player and tried restarting Firefox, again no dice both with a standard startup and a Firefox Safe Mode startup attempt. Additional Crash ID's: Non Safe Mode: bp-28599dfb-262a-4a39-9450-7f1b61171022 Safe Mode: bp-b8393e57-5dd8-47be-96b9-98ee41171022

I have scanned PC with Malwarebytes and Windows Defender, no intrusions found. I'm not a programmer or IT expert. I want my Firefox back. Please help, thanks.

i think it may be due to the transition to 64bit versions of firefox. third-party tools that hook into the browser may need to be adapted to that change... either uninstalling the att software or going back to a 32bit version of firefox probably solves the problem: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

hi, it looks like this crash is triggered by the third-party "AT&T Parental Controls" software that may be active on your system and hooking into firefox...

Thanks for the heads up. Have used both together for many years, any idea why this would suddenly be a problem? My PC logs into ATT Parental Controls so as administrator, in order that I can apply them to other PC's in our home network. Should I attempt to uninstall Parental Controls? Is Firefox no longer compatible?

First: I uninstalled ATT Parental Controls and Firefox opens, thank you!

Second, and I am sorry for the additional question, as you've solved the problem I reported, but your mentioning the 32 vs 64 bit issue has answered a secondary question about why I have two versions of Firefox on my PC!

I'm not sure how this happened, but I have Firefox installed in both 32 and 64 bit versions. I honestly couldn't understand why the shortcut on my desktop had a different file location compared to the shortcut in my start menu bar, but I now realize it's because they're separate versions.

Note: neither version would run before uninstalling Parental Controls, and now both do.

The 32 bit version has all my bookmarks, the few plugins I run, basically my preferences. Here are my questions:

Is it a problem to have both installed and running separately or simultaneously?

If I just run 64-bit version what is the best way to get my preferences, add on/plugins and favorites moved/shared between the versions?

Interesting aside:

When I went to uninstall Firefox earlier, only one installation appeared in "add remove programs", which was apparently the 64 bit version, as the shortcut on my home screen disappeared. That's when I noticed the shortcut in my task bar was still there and realized I had something going on. Turns out it was the 32-bit version.

you can check in the firefox menu under help (?) > about firefox if you're running 32bit or 64bit firefox (i wouldn't fully trust the entries in the windows control panel).

both versions should access the same profile and therefore all the settings, bookmarks, addons etc out of the box - but i think it's best to just use the 64bit version for increased security and performance. i can't really explain why you'd see different settings depending on which shortcut you use to open firefox though...
