Whenever I go to a youtube or google I don't see the usual text that i get when i open them in my mobile device. Instead i get some number inside a triangle box, though seems like that translates to the text in other devices. I'm using Debian 4.9.82-1+deb9u3 and whenever there is a website in my native language (Nepali) it shows the same numbers inside rectangle that the text.

This is a font problem. More specifically, the font Firefox is using does not have the characters called for by the page.

When I visit that Wikipedia page, Firefox uses Mangal (screenshot attached). This might be bundled with Windows 7. I don't know.

Perhaps check your font settings on the Preferences page.

  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the left column, click Content, then on the right side, click the Advanced button to call up the fonts dialog.

The selector at the top lists numerous different character sets. Is there one that seems to cover your language? If so, is it set to a logical font?
