i downloaded these add ons because i want to use them - disableing the add on defeats the purpose ... but i do not want unsolicited ads - thank you's - or anything else opening up unsolicited on a semi-daily basis ... is there a way to stop this ? certainly these ads have installed some sore of "malware" [which is how i see it] and i would like to know if theres a way to stop these ... thank you in advance

Is there a reason you are using an old version of Firefox? Firefox 48.0

What add-ons do you think is causing the problem?

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for a good ad / pop-up blocker.

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

as per 48.0 - our video editing softwear limits us to OS 10.8 and if i not wrong 48.0 is the last verison to run on 10.8 .... i thank you very much for the answers given ... i was thinking there was a simple answer [setting change or look in a folderfor the culprit] i suspect there is a reloader - or a web address lurking in a folder somewhere ... or a setting in about config that would not allow my maching to NOT load a web address without my clicking on said web address .... this seems to be the next fad that these companies are using to hoodwink the public - the web page loads the add on's homepage to "thank" me and oh would i like to buy their "stuff" .. anyway thanx again ill keep plugging along

Would you tell us the names of these add-ons that you've downloaded  ?

Good advice  !

This one is highly recommended :

Some add-ons display a page when they update. Some authors are notorious for frequent updates. You could shop around for replacements for those. Often more than one extension can do the same job.

Might be a good idea .....

1-click you tube downloader ..... the web site that comes up unsolicited is www.clickvideodownload.com

the other one i speak of im not exactly sure yet - i dont want to impune a good company by mistake .. im looking for it [or it will pop up soon] and will post when i know for sure

im also looking for the folder and files on my machine [that contain the script to have this site continually pop up] --and if i find where they reside will post that as well

by the way im using [and have been all along] uBLockOrigin .... and adBlockPlus

keep in mind - i thought there would be a simple fix on my machine - maybe in about:config that would stop this from happening ... so i dint document the add ons doing the dirty work ...

"Some add-ons display a page when they update. Some authors are notorious for frequent updates."

thank you for that, i dint know that --- my point is: no add ons should bring up ANY page for ANY purpose unsolicited on my machine ... anything of the sort is MALWARE in my opinion - im starting to wonder if mozilla should be held accountable for such privacy infringments for add ons that are supposed to be safe - should they not ???

may have found it -- several suspicious entrys in my browser history are:

moz-extension://88d6d44c-91d6-****-bb26-cec2c****c58/ [i removed some numbers just in case that leads somewhere]

that leads to a file [group of files] on my machine here:

file:///Users/[user name]/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/tugyw2jz.default/extensions/{***}.xpi/

in that "extensions" folder along with the {variable} .xpi, are the web address of the other extension in question that i dint not post - along with some other interesting addresses and some uBLock information ....

the add on i suspected and now possible confirmed is "YouTubeDownloader"

so at this point its time for me to get back to work - im gonna erase the files [addresses] in question .. may or may not stop the problem ... i feel at least ive made known the add ons [by name] that [in my opinion] contain malware ... and since this is a mozilla support page - i may have made known to mozilla my concerns ... that and others can see the names of the add ons i posted an avoid

thank you

There are several YouTube downloaders :

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/tag/youtube%20downloader

But I assume that you're talking about this one :

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1-click-youtube-video-downl/?src=search

If you suspect that this add-on comes with malware : at the left side there is a grey button : 'Report this add-on for abuse'.

But you could also contact the developers, see 'Support Email' under 'More Information'. Might be the best way to find out what's really going on ......
