The bookmarks I've added during a browsing session have gone unsaved/disappeared the next time Firefox is launched

Yesterday, a folder with about 20 bookmarks, and a few additional single bookmarks, that I'm completely sure I saved in the morning just wasn't there when I was about to check them in the evening.

It has happened a few times before during the last weeks, never experienced it before that. Can't see any obvious underlying common cause or pattern behind these occasions. Problem is not retrieving those that were lost yesterday but rather the uncertainty if Firefox management of bookmarks is reliable or not, as I have a ton of bookmarks (4000+) for all kinds of purposes.

Reinstallation recommended?

Edit: I should add that I'm using the Sync service, if that might be the problem.

If you have sync, and there is a problem anywhere, Shut Down Sync Immediately On All Devices to prevent the problem from spreading. Once the problem is fixed, perform the same repair on all computers/profiles before using sync again.

Have you checked the other profiles on the sync? Is the information there?

[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

When done, copy and post the results here.

Thank you for your reply.

I actually only have Sync activated on my laptop for the moment, so I guess it doesn't serve any purpose anyway.

Here are the results: > Task: checkIntegrity + The places.sqlite database is sane + The favicons.sqlite database is sane > Task: invalidateCaches + The caches have been invalidated > Task: checkCoherence + The database is coherent > Task: expire + Database cleaned up > Task: originFrecencyStats + Recalculated origin frecency stats > Task: vacuum + Initial database size is 5120KiB + The database has been vacuumed + Final database size is 5120KiB

Edit: I have disabled all syncing alternatives in Options > Firefox Account > Sync Settings.

Is the problem still there?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

The problem that bookmarks are not being saved? No, not for the moment, added bookmarks are normally saved in most cases but the problem is that it has happened a few times quite randomly the last weeks that a few added bookmarks have gone unsaved and I have noticed it the next time that I've launched Firefox. Reason to why I reacted now was that the problem became so obvious to me when this whole folder with bookmarks unexpectedly was unsaved and disappeared.

I'll think I'll reinstall Firefox and see if that fixes the problem, otherwise I'll get back here.

Thanks for your help.
