When I attempt to type a new email in Hotmail, it pulls up my last sent email.

I am using Windows 8, and Firefox 17.0.1.

When I log into my Hotmail account and click on "New" in order to send a new email, it pulls up the last email I sent instead of a blank template. The people at Hotmail say to use Internet Explorer, but I would obviously prefer to avoid that.

Let me know if you need any additional information.

Does the same thing happen if you do use Internet Explorer? It sounds like this could just be a weird feature of Hotmail.

Thank you for replying.

This does not happen when using Internet Explorer. I tried logging out and logging back in, restarting Firefox, and rebooting the computer, but had no luck.

Sorry to hear that.

There is a great Firefox add-on called IE Tab V2 that might help you. It basically lets you trick a web site into thinking it is being viewed in Internet Explorer. You can even create a list of sites that should always be tricked this way.

To install the add-on, visit the page above and click "Add to Firefox." Using the add-on can be a little more tricky, but please let me know if you have any questions.

Extensions like IE View and IE Tab use IE and the IE rendering engine, so you are running IE.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Thank you both for your input. Sorry it has taken me this long to respond. I figured I should try the safe mode approach before adding additional add ons, and it turns out, it worked. When I restarted Firefox in safe mode, I was able to type a "normal" email. When I restarted Firefox with the add ons, it went back to the old way, pulling up the last sent email. I guess the next best thing to do will be to just disable the add ons one at a time to find out which one is causing the problem, unless you experts have other suggestions.

Thanks again for your assistance!

Disabling add-ons one at a time to find the culprit sounds like a great idea. Glad to hear your issue was resolved.
