Firefox Crashes when opening -- Win 8.1

more options

Hi,

About a month ago i wiped my laptop and upgraded from 7 to 8.1. Now when i try and use Firefox, it will open for 1-2 seconds, then crash. I had AVG, un-installed that and now use Avast. I also used Hitman Pro alert, and un-installed that to make sure -- cant figure it out for the life of me.

Crash ID: bp-bb0b77dd-fd37-4132-8883-31aac2140423

Thanks.

In case you haven't tried it, could you try starting Firefox in its Safe Mode? Hold down the shift key while launching Firefox.

In the small dialog that should display, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any improvement in stability?

In case it's a malware issue:

In case your Firefox program files have become corrupted somehow, you may also want to replace them. The following method does not involve uninstalling Firefox, just hiding the existing program folder and re-running the installer.

(1) Download a fresh installer from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(2) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(3) Rename the folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

(4) Run the installer you downloaded in #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Any improvement in behavior?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox\Plugins
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox\browser\plugins
