I have a new computer. I can not get the automatic application of User Name and Password to work. I think the problem revolves around the fact that i can not Uncheck remove cookies when FF closes. say this because that function had to be enabled on my old compute to get this to work.

FF asks if I want to save UN and PW and they are listed as saved.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?

There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page to log you in automatically.
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.
If this "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you will have to sign in once again.

  • Create a cookie 'allow' exception to keep such cookies, especially in case of secure websites and when cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
  • Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Exceptions

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":

  • do not clear the Cookies
  • do not clear the Site Preferences

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.

Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.

I am not sure what you are saying in the first paragraph as I am not sure you understand what I am asking.

My problem is FF has the capacity to automatically insert my UN and PW to a give site when I select that site. This is not opening the site to the login page and then applying the UN and PW after I type the first letter of the UN. What I am asking for is to have FF skip that function altogether and open the site directly using the saved UN and PW.

Looking at the setting in my other computer, that does this, the only difference I can see is I can not DESELECT cookies in Privacy, History,Use Custom settings, Clear history when FF closes, Settings, History, Cookies.

When I attempt to set the above settings for cookies, on the new computer, and click OK the selection is not retained. Since this is the only difference I can see between the 2 computer I have to believe the problem centers there.

I have to believe that this is possible since I have this function on my other computer and since FF has provided that function in the past.
