Reset firefox without loosing my adons
I am using firefox from last 6 years currently using version 29. And since that time i have added many firefox adons (extension). During this time i have modified many settings of firefox like preference and in about:config also. Now a days my firefox is not performing very well as it was performing before. I think this is the result of some modifications i made to to about:config.
The question i want to ask to startover with new firefox and deleting my old extensions is a big problem for me. 1. Does creating new profile of firefox resets its all settings? I mean if i create a new profile in firefox, does i get that profile as complete brand new firefox or the changes i made to firefox about:config or about:adons remain constant while creating a new profile.
If creating new firefox profile makes firefox as brand new, then i will try to install my old extensions one by one from the old profile. I want to keep old profile for reference that what i have there till i completely migrate to new profile.
Please answer my question. In one sentence, does creating new profile and using that profile is like brand new firefox using with all settings of firefox reset to default including about config and about adons or i have to install firefox separately. What settings firefox keep permanent which are not affected although i create new profile.
Thanks
Imran

The vast majority of problems are caused by add-ons. So if you want to start fresh, there's practically no point to it as long as you keep all your add-ons.
Resetting Firefox discards add-ons and preferences but keeps personal data like bookmarks and passwords.
A brand new profile is what you had when you installed Firefox for the first time. None of your add-ons, none of your preferences, no personal data like bookmarks or passwords.
You can use the profile manager to switch between your current profile and a brand new profile.
Just one more clarification. Will about:config and about:adons modifications be reset when i create new profile? I already said that i will install extensions from start over but i want to keep old profile for reference to see which extensions should i install in new profile Waiting for clarification about my above questions. You mean i create a new profile and delete old profile is as like i have installed new firefox just now?

These two add-ons can help you.
FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.
OPIE {web link} Import/Export extension preferences
When you Reset Firefox {web link}, all of your add-ons are removed, and All Options are reset to factory settings. Bookmarks, passwords and history are saved.
If you think that you have a problem with preferences that you changed then you can rename or delete the prefs.js file in the Firefox profile folder.
Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
