I've been trying to set Firefox as the default page when opening the application, but the system won't remember it once I close Firefox

I've been attempting to set the Firefox home page as the default screen when I open the application. It works while I'm still in Firefox, but once I close the app, the system resets to the page set by the vendor. How do I get Firefox to remember the home page I put into the options window?

Ah, I see what's going on. Thank you for adding your troubleshooting information. It helped narrow it down.

You should always pay attention when installing software because often, a software installer includes optional installs, such as this adware. Be very careful what you agree to install.
Adware gets on your computer after you have installed a freeware software (video recording/streaming, download-managers or PDF creators) that had bundled into their installation this browser hijacker.

You can use the below steps to revert back to adware-less Firefox.

1) Reset Prefs

  • Navigate to about:config in your Address Bar
  • Press the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button to proceed
  • Search for trovi and reset all prefs that pull up by right clicking > Reset

2) Remove any programs that you don't recognize or remember installing from your Control Panel (Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a Program)

3) Remove any extensions that you don't recognize or remember installing from Firefox.

  • Firefox 29 and above:(Press the menu button (The image "new fx menu" does not exist. > Add-ons > Extensions)
  • Firefox 28 and below:(Go to the orange Firefox button > Add-ons > Extensions)

4) Download ADW Cleaner to wipe out any remnants of the adware.

5) it looks like user.js is currently active in Firefox. The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.

You can delete a possible user.js file and delete also the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release. You can get to the profile folder below:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory > Show Folder

or

  • Go to about:support and click Show Folder next to Profile Directory.

Thanks for the extensive response to my question. Unfortunately, I've already been through these steps without success. I have not downloaded any software except Firefox as my laptop is new, so it's the factory settings that are reverting my changes.

When I make a change in the Options tab (changing the homepage to the Firefox home page) it will remain while Firefox is still open. Once I close it and re-open it, the options revert back to the factory settings.

Any ideas?

Have you tried any of the steps above especially resetting prefs in about:config and also deleting the user.js and prefs.js files?

it looks like user.js is currently active in Firefox. The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.

You can delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release. You can get to the profile folder below:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory > Show Folder
