Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Deleting places.sqlite would normally delete all your history. Can you get it back from the Recycle Bin and store it is a safe place in case you need it?

I'm not sure why the Library dialog isn't working correctly for you. Does it not even list older categories such as Last 7 Days?

You can check the file with this extension:

Since you have deleted places.sqlite completely and Firefox is creating a new one, it's hard to imagine repeated database corruption.

To rule out a potential problem in Firefox's program folders, I suggest the following:

(1) If needed, download a fresh installer for Firefox 30 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(2) Exit out of Firefox.

(3) Rename the folder

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(4) Run the installer you downloaded in #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

The new installation of Firefox should discover your existing profile. Does it read places.sqlite correctly?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • C:\Program Files\OldFirefox\Plugins
  • C:\Program Files\OldFirefox\browser\plugins

thanks guys , but nothing worked out yet . Places Maintenance add-on didn't help , the same thing happens in Safe Mode , Appearance is set to DEFAULT theme , deactivate all plugins didn't work either and The new installation of Firefox discovered my existing profile with the same problem. i use Firefox 30 and bookmarks works fine . my history is saved but still i can only view today and yesterday in the library.

If you use the search box in the upper right of the Library dialog to search for something very common (like www), how far back to the results go?

I have no idea where to post this question so I just try here. I too just discovered the same. Suddenly I only see history for today and yesterday. This are the only two options available. I have not deleted older history. I know how to delete history selectively but I never delete it entirely. Where did it all go?! All I see is today or yesterday when I select all history. No this week or this month. What happened? Where did it all go? Is it just hidden somehow. Very disconcerting and frankly I find all the responses incomprehensible.
