I have made all the suggested changes in config: to get that tile tab to disappear, but nothing changes; what can I do to get it to disappear permanently?

I have my preferences set to open FF with a blank page. Today it just started opening with the blank page then immediately opening a page of tiles over it in another tab.

I did the about:config thing (including promising to be careful) and have browser.newtab.url set to about:blank and browser:newtabpage.enabled set to false. But every time I open a new browser window, I still get a tile tab opening over it. And every time I click on a link in a page, the link will open and a tile tab will immediately open over it.

This is driving me crazy. I want things back to normal and that tile tab thing to disappear forever. I never want to see it again. What else can I do? Thank you.

If you click the More System Details link next to your post, you will see that you have the "MySearchDial" extension. You should remove this first, since that is installed at the Windows level and Firefox will keep finding it.

Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, and click the "Installed on" column heading to bring the most recent additions to the top. Look for MySearchDial, and anything else that seems suspicious or unnecessary that was installed around the same time, most likely as an undisclosed bundle item. Take out as much of the trash as you can. Then you can proceed with cleaning up your browser(s).

Reset Firefox (Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings) and then try turning off the new tab page again.

Thanks to all. I will try these suggestions tonight or tomorrow morning and post on how successful they are.

Well, that worked out nicely. I was going to do all of the suggestions listed above, but didn't have to. I started jscher2000's suggestion of removing MySearchDial -- I don't even know what that program is. I deleted it from the Windows Control Panel and it popped up with the instructions for disabling/removing it from the browsers. I clicked on Firefox, followed their instructions, restarted FF, and it is working perfectly. I have my blank start page and not a sign of the the dreaded tile tabs. BTW, the MySearchDial had been installed since last February. I don't know why it decided to kick in today to start shoving tiles in my face. Anyway, thank you both for taking the time to help me stop this!
