I am a web developer and the website that I have built requires the user to log in to access it. Once the user logs in, they are prompted to have firefox remember their credentials like normal. If they say yes, it creates a record in the saved passwords section (tools>options>security>saved passwords) but the username field is blank. If you click show passwords the password is saved along with the URL...just no user name.

This site is using SSL if that matters. Any ideas?

Apparently the user name field had a strange input type set up that was causing the problem. I've updated it to text and it will now save correctly.

Do you have a live test case that we can use?

If not, report that to the Mozilla developers thru Bugzilla. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/

Thanks edmeister. I will submit a bug via bugzilla

Note that Firefox uses the input field just before the password field for the user name in the DOM, so check that out and if necessary rearrange the input fields.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
