For about 3 months I have not been able to instigate a forced update check (Menu -> Help -> About Firefox). Instead, the About Firefox menu item is not present within the Help menu. In an attempt to remedy this, I uninstalled firefox and its dependencies and re- downloaded the latest version, however the menu item is still missing. I believe that auto-update still works.

Please can you advise why this could be happening as I would like to know if this is normal behaviour or not.

Thanks in advance,

Hello,

To find the correct solution to your problem, we need some more non-personal information from you. Please do the following:

  1. Use ONE of these methods to open the Firefox Troubleshooting Information page:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click on help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information.
    • Type about:support into the Firefox address bar and press the enter key.
  2. At the top of the Troubleshooting Information page that comes up, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
  3. Now, go back to your forum post, right-click in the reply box and select Paste from the context menu (or else click inside the reply box and press the Ctrl+V keys) to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.

Thanks for your help,

I have tried "about:about" and I'm presented with a list of options. I then clicked through on "about:" and was shown a page showing the current version (similar to the conventional About Firefox window) however there is no option to force an update check.

FredMcD, I have previously removed firefox and its associated library entries from my machine before re-downloading the latest release. The problem still persisted after re-installation. Any ideas?

Thanks,

To actually answer the question about the Help menu on Mac OSX.

for reading as Bugzilla is not a discussion forum. Bug 215893 - Help / About menu item needs to be hidden on the Mac

On Mac it is "Firefox > About Mozilla Firefox"

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the disk image file to the desktop
