Latest version of Why is the latest version of Firefox running slow?

more options

Firefox is running very slow, some pages slower than others, Like Ebay is impossible to scroll down the page. Even this page is slow. I have reset, deleted bookmarks, tabs, nothing helps. I have used Firefox for a few years, but now have had to use Opera which is super fast.

You might already have reviewed the suggestions in this article, but if not: Quick fixes if your Firefox slows down.

Since Flash is used pervasively on the web, as a diagnostic, could I suggest this test: set the Flash player to "click to play" so that sites require your permission to use it. Firefox should load the rest of the page more quickly and you can decide whether the site needs to be able to use Flash. (Sometimes it's just for analytics, super-cookies, or to play ads.)

Here's how:

Open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins.

On the right side, look for "Shockwave Flash" and change "Always Activate" to "Ask to Activate".

When you visit a site that wants to use the Flash, you should see a notification icon in the address bar (looks like a small lego block) and one of the following: a link in a black rectangle in the page or an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the page.

Do pages load any faster?

I did what you suggested, no difference in speed. In fact, scrolling on Ebay pages is so delayed, it's just not working. I actually thought it was my computer or mouse(tried another mouse), but since other browsers work, well it's obviously Firefox.

Hi Thomas, what methods are you using for scrolling and/or are the results different among these?

  • mouse scroll wheel
  • Page Down, Page Up keys on the keyboard
  • arrow up and down keys on the keyboard
  • scroll bar arrows
  • dragging the scroll bar thumb

I use the mouse scroll wheel, and if I use the mouse arrow, moving the side bar to move the page up or down, it is the same result, very slow with delayed response.

It is also slow using the arrows on the keyboard.
