can't fix slowness in my Thunderbird

more options

Since T-bird upgraded/updated my e-mail account a month or so ago accessing one message is very slow. It takes forever to open, plus it takes forever to delete a message. Does not 'instantly' delete as it used to.

Maybe the system is stuggling with large files.

Keep file sizes smaller by organising emails into Folders. Archive older mail. Info on Archive options:

Compact folders on a regular basis to remove all hidden 'marked as deleted' mail which take up space and increase file size. Info on compacting:

If you have an anti-virus/firewall software scanning emails then that program will cause a delay, so stop scanning incoming mail. Do not worry, it will still scan any attachments you open and Thunderbird automatically does not allow remote content to be auto displayed.

Also try reindexing the folder: Right click on folder and select 'Repair folder' click on OK

Good outcome? Are you running McAfee? If not, which antivirus?
