All my stored inbox emails are corrupted. They show as code and are not original messages.
Thunderbird on my computer has just updated to version 38.0 and it is a disaster for my business unless I can solve it.
All the existing messages in my Inbox no longer show as the original messages. They either show as code or nothing shows at all. Is there something I can do to put this right becasue many of those saved messages are what I rely upon to do business.
Additionally when I click on some messages they are not the ones that relate to who sent them. My emails in the Inbox go back to 2013. The problem goes back through them all although the occasional one will be viewable.
The messages in all my other folders show correctly.

This has got nothing to do with the update.

Do you have a backup of your Thunderbird profile folder? If not, why not? Then create one now. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_Backing_Up_and_Restoring
Are your messages still located on a server, so you could access them via webmail?
Your Inbox folder appears to be corrupted, for whatever reason. The most common reason is anti-virus software writing to the Thunderbird mail file(s) when it shouldn't.
Whether the corruption can be repaired or not I don't know. Try to rebuild the index file of the troubled folder. Right-click the folder - Properties - Repair Folder
Depending on the state of the corruption, in the best case this will repair everything. In worst case messages, when messages cannot be recovered, they will be also removed from the message list.

Accumulating messages in Inbox is a bad idea. Inbox is most susceptible to corruption. For the future follow these guidelines. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keep_it_working_-_Thunderbird
