After trying all the support suggestions, I still cannot add my new email account to Thunderbird--is there a person to talk with?
I am trying to add my new email account to Thunderbird. I have tried automatically and manually doing this. I have deleted the account and tried again. I am using all the proper settings as checked online, through Mozilla support, and with IT colleagues. My new account is in Google Apps, if that helps. I am using Thunderbird 38.3.
The error message suggests that my username or password is invalid. However, I can access the mail account fine through the web. But I need it in Thunderbird with my other accounts.
I wish Mozilla Thunderbird had a call center to walk this problem through. Help, anyone?

I'd suggest a visit to your gmail account settings, on the web. It may be waiting for you to authenticate yourself.
What have you enabled or chosen for the account security? Are you using OAuth2? Or the two-factor business using a phone? Have you been asked to enable Thunderbird as a "less secure application"?
I've done that. I have a simple password authentication, imap is enabled. No request from gmail to authenticate or enable Thunderbird specifically.
This is the first email account created originally in Google Apps. I have other google mail accounts created earlier and these are no problem.
Usually errors about user name and password being invalid stem from an anti virus program blocking the communication pathways.
Try creating your accountin the operating system safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX
