Pop Up Window not opening as a new tab

more options

I already have the Tab setting selected to open new windows in a new tab instead. There is a web site i check on a normal basis, and there is link that i click on and it opens a pop up window. This window opens as a new window instead of a new tab. How do i fix this?

There is an exception to the rule, and a way to override the exception.

The exception is for popup windows with special features set, such as a width and height. The idea is that Firefox doesn't want to make it difficult to access dialogs that are meant for use while you can still see the page. But sites may be abusing the exception so...

To override it:

  1. In a new tab, type or paste about:config and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.
  2. In the filter box, type or paste link.o and pause while the list is filtered.
  3. There are three similarly named preferences for different scenarios, but the second one is the key change:
    (A) browser.link.open_newwindow: 3 = divert new window to a new tab
    (B) browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction: 0 = divert regular AND scripted windows with features
    (C) browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external: -1 = follow browser.link.open_newwindow for external links

I have a test page here for, er, testing: https://jeffersonscher.com/res/popit.html
