Firefox 54.0 is slow and pages fail to load

more options

Hi everyone,

For the last week Firefox has been unusually slow with loading pages.

Often, pages will be stuck in the loading process but will never load, I will have to hit stop and force refresh the page.

Gmail for example fails to auto-save drafts and often has sending issues as the page fails to complete when hitting send.

Any ideas for the sudden cause of this?

Thank you

Hello,

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

You may also wish to consider disabling or removing ABP as this may be hogging some of the memory.

I would also mention that there are substantial performance improvements coming with Firefox 57 later this year that should address many of the issues that experiencing.

Thank you.

Hi Seburo,

Thanks for you help.

I did try this and I still have some problems. Even in safe mode with addon disabled.

A few issues that I noticed:

- When I click a link to open in a new tab, it often fails to ever load. I can hit stop and do a refresh and it will load.

- Gmail has been a nightmare. Often times my emails will just get stuck when sending and never send, so I have to refresh the page. The auto save draft doesn't work when this happens either so I have to compose the email all over again. (Now I've been composing emails on my phone)

I've lost many emails because I just assume it would work (which they have for the last 10 years.)

-Lastly, I've disabled ABP on pages where it's not needed, Gmail for example. But still the slow performance continues. And my computer has pretty good specs.

-In addition to all of this, the inspector tool has not been working for me either and I use it a lot for web developing. (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1167433)

I've been sticking with Firefox through the years but it's getting to the point when I may have to jump ship and use Chrome instead.

I'm sad :(

Actually his other thread is more specifically about a problem with the Inspector Developer Tool. While this thread is more about general performance problems while browsing & weird glitches with sites like Gmail. I'll allow this thread to remain open & try to offer some advice that hasn't been tried before. :)
