You can probably install the Disable Add-on Compatibility Check add-on to achieve this, as a former preference is no longer used.

I’m not sure how long the (rather old) extension will keep working due to the move to WebExtensions, but that will probably eliminate the need for this check or end the ability to use the affected add-on.

This can happen if another Firefox version (32/64 bit?) has used the profile or if there is a problem with the compatibility.ini file (security software).

You can check what Firefox version last used the profile to see if that give a clue what is going on. You can try to delete the compatibility.ini file in the profile folder if there is a problem with the file (e.g. file doesn't get updated).

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
