Firefox crashing constantly, cannot open new tabs
Upon waking up my laptop from hibernating this morning, Firefox crashes nearly every time I try to open a new tab, or type in the URL bar. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox twice, and even then upon reinstall firefox has crashed.
Tried opening Firefox in safe mode, but again if I tried to open a tab and type in the url it would crash. In both normal and safe mode, opening a new tab link could either load that tab, or have that tab crash, not the whole browser. So far all the tabs that have crashed never load no matter how many times it's refreshed.
I believe I have the 64 bit version, with addons for Greasemonkey, AdBlock Plus, Reddit Enhancement Suite, and Gyazo, and Snap links.
I can try and get that info but even trying to open a tab to get to Options causes Firefox to crash.

I'm typing this response from Firefox! TLDR: I attempted to do a system restore, and got an error message that said it could not be completed and to run chkdsk /r. In spite of running "chkdsk C:" and it coming back saying there were no problems, I ran chkdsk /r anyway that this morning, and it seems to have worked (got a little scared when the chkdsk got stuck at 10%).
I'm thinking that was the main solution, but just in case here's everything else I tried:
- tried running "clean boot" in windows, but Firefox still performed the same crashing behavior and I didn't feel tech savvy enough to determine why that was happening - ran in "safe mode" in windows, where Firefox worked, and checked which third party programs also didn't run, which seemed to be my antivirus. :/ - Checked the add/remove programs settings app, saw that my antivirus and then a random Microsoft game were the two programs changed in the day or two before my issue happened, so I wound up uninstalling them and restarting, which didn't fix the crashing. - Found out about System Restore points, and that Windows 10 creates them before all mandatory updates, and attempted that, which is where I finally got that error message and was advised to chkdsk /r.
So now I'm going to attempt to re-download the antivirus program I was using, and knock on wood it seems to be ok!

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.
- On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
- In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
- From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
- Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
- Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
- Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Also make sure you have all Windows updates.
Finally, run a scan with www.malwarebytes.com
This looks to be an issue with Windows, so these may point us in the right direction.
This could be a problem with a font or the renderer (skia present in the crashing thread).
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
- Options/Preferences -> General: Performance
remove checkmark: [ ] "Use recommended performance settings"

Close and restart Firefox after modifying the setting for changes to take effect.
You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.
Tyler: I ran the SFC and got the message "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." I also did the DISM, I just did the check/scan and got the message "No component store corruption detected. The operation completed successfully."
I also downloaded and ran Malwarebytes and it hadn't detected anything.

Cor-el: I can't get to the about:preferences/general page without Firefox crashing, unfortunately.
I did check the display driver and it says it's up to date.
No luck with Firefox Safe Mode as well (i.e. hold the Shift key when starting Firefox)?
Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen or hold down the Shift key) to see if that has effect.
Thanks cor-el. Starting Firefox in safe mode didn't work, still crashed.
On the other hand, starting my computer in safe mode did affect it - I could open tabs, use the url bar without crashing Firefox. I did change the hardware acceleration setting while in that safe mode. However, once not in Windows safe mode Firefox once again crashes when opening new tabs and trying to use the url bar.
HI, give this a try : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Thanks Pkshadow. I uninstalled, and when I checked those folders (program files, program files x86, and program data) there were no Mozilla folders to be found. I ran disk cleanup and cleanup system files, selected everything, and ran that process. I went to the full installer site and installed. It's unfortunately still crashing.

Hi, great news. Yes Win10 does create restore points but do not count on them being current when need them the most. So before working on system always make a restore point. https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-restore-windows-10
There is security software like Avast/AVG, Kaspersky, BitDefender, ESET and sometimes McAfee that are issues with certificates and/or scanners just about every time they update.
Always :
