In the default profile the saved logins got lost. The dialog shows no saved logins. I can visit sites one by one and request a password reset but this is very time consuming and not all sites have this feature.

I tried using the system restore feature in Windows 10 to set the computer back to a date when the passwords weren't lost but this never worked. I am not sure if this technique applies to the Firefox configuration files.

I understand that the logins are saved in the files key4.db and logins.json. I have tried to copy those files from other profiles into my default profile but I didn't get any saved logins back.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

Try to rename/remove pkcs11.txt and secmode.db in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. If you have a key3.db file then remove this file as well.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

I have a folder called Old Firefox Data. In it seems to be several profiles, each in their own subfolder. One looks promising for having the missing passwords but it might be too old.

I removed the pkcs11.txt, secmode.db, and key3.db files. Upon running Firefox a new pkcs11.txt file was created.

Older Firefox versions used key3.db for the key file. To restore the passwords from such a profile you need to copy logins.json and key3.db to the current profile folder and remove an existing key4.db in the current profile folder.
