I use TalkTalk as my provider and Firefox as my browser until the beginning of August when I go onto banking or payment sites the F-secure protection banner has popped up. Since then I have had qustions and solutions from TalkTalk & from F-secure. Last Wednesday after reinstalling Firefox & F-secure we thought the problem was solved but on Thursday we were back to square one. I have been onto TT & F-secure again and now it seems TT-passed me onto F secure and they have now said to get onto Forefox to escalate the problem- so here I am. Thanks

What does the banner say and how does it affect your ability to use those sites?

The banner pops down at the top and says "banking protection active" and there are 2 boxes then 1) DETAILS 2)END O can use the sites but am not happy to as I'm not sure if I am protected and as it has been there for years it is unsettling if it is not there. It works on Edge when I use Santander but not on Nat West and it used to work on both Firefox & Edge Thanks for reading jscher2000

So if I understand the problem, I could summarize it as follows:

F-Secure SAFE's Banking Protection feature (F-Secure User Guides) normally shows a confirmation that it is protecting bank sites by displaying a banner in or above the page. Starting in Firefox 79, this banner still appears for some bank sites, but it does not appear on other bank sites.

The key feature of Banking Protection is that F-Secure blocks connections to all other websites while you are using a recognized bank site. Is that part working?

If you are using DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH), could you try turning that off to see whether it makes any difference? This article describes where to find that setting: Firefox DNS over HTTPS.

Sorry -it does not appear anywhere on Firefox but at the momnet it is working on Santander on Edgebut the Nat west bank is not. I'm also sorry I do not know if it is blocking connections to all other websites whilst I'm onto a bank 1) because I don't know how I would know that and 2) I haven't been using the banking sites as the banner is not popping up.

Also I have read the Firefox DNS over HTTPS but it is all double dutch to me. Surely the problem is it has worked for years on Firefox and now it isn't? Thanks

Hi Rustyone, okay, when SAFE is working, if you are on the bank's site and you try to go to a different site in another tab, SAFE is supposed to tell you it is blocked. I assume you do not see that in Firefox but you do see it in Edge, at least while you're using the Santander site?

To check DNS over HTTPS:

Open the Options/Preferences page:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the search box at the top of the page, type dns and Firefox should filter to the "Network Settings" section where you can click the "Settings" button.

If there is a check mark next to "Enable DNS over HTTPS" un-check it and click the OK button.

Can you tell whether any other F-Secure features are working in Firefox? I haven't reviewed their features in depth.

Sorry I have no idea if any other F-secure functions work as I have no idea what the other functions are and I'm not sure if in the banking site and go to another site if it is blocked as I have not been on a banking site since the protection banner stopped working.

There was no tick in the box Enable DNS over https

Where now? I was advised to report this to my on-line browser in order for them to escalate it-maybe you could advise me how to do this please. Thanks
