Firefox is telling the world that it is version 91: confirmed by websites are telling me that my 91 installation is out of date, further confirmed from this page below showing

   Firefox version (optional):
   91.0

Under Settings/Firefox Updates I see "Version 97.0.1 Firefox is up to date."

Anyone know what's going on?

I have done my best to suppress browser and OS fingerprinting. Is that the cause? I also note that under 'Troubleshooting information" below the page shows "We can't automatically get your browser's troubleshooting data"

Hi

The anti-fingerprinting option makes Firefox appear to sites as being the latest "extended support release" version - which is currently Firefox 91.

Ok - checked and tested.

As Seburo and James point out, privacy.resistFingerprinting being on causes the the User Agent to appear as the latest "extended support release" version.

Turning it off showed my version as 97, turning it on again brought it back to 91.

Now I haven't noticed any specific problems with this, but since in the last month or so I've been getting warning messages from sites that I am out of date, I wouldn't be surprised if I do hit problems soon.

Does this seem likely? Is there a timeline for updating the atest "extended support release" version?

The next ESR will be based on the Firefox 102 Release.
