Some pages in Firefox are displaying 'Wingdings' instead of 'English' characters. This actually included the "Topic" selection in the questions page!!!! (see attached image) It does not happen on most pages, but some that I wish to use are affected. Some sites are partially affected with, for example, drop-down lists displaying incorrectly whist the rest of the page is OK. If I select the affected text and paste it into, say, 'Notepad', the test displays correctly. This only started a couple of months ago following an 'update' to Firefox. (not much of an update if it messes up the application)!!

If you use uBlock Origin or another extension that can block website fonts make sure not to "block remote fonts".

Make sure you allow pages to choose their own fonts.

  • Settings -> General -> Language and Appearance -> Fonts -> Advanced
    [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of your selections above"

You can right-click and select "Inspect" to open the built-in Inspector with this element selected.

You can check in the Rules tab in the right panel in the Inspector what font-family is used for selected text. You can check in the Fonts tab in the right panel in the Inspector what font is actually used because Firefox might be using a different font than specified by the website.
