Without original column headers which you could toggle to sort ascending or descending has the "SENDER" column grayed out - Cannot sort the list by Senders Name because the option under the pulldown menu "View" shows the FROM field grayed out - inoperable - Previous versions allowed all columns to be ascending or descending - in this version of tbird most of the common columns are grayed out

Only in the card view are things disabled. I still use the list view and nothing has changed there.

I have a feeling that the whole card view was rather rushed. However further work is proposed, per this discussion. You might want to offer your contributions to that list. https://thunderbird.topicbox.com/groups/ux/Tdb49a4666565e68e/cards-view-ui-plans

Hello Matt - You mentioned "Card view" and "List View" but we cannot find these options under the View pulldown menu

Thanks for your help

Enable the Message List Header under View/Layout, click the icon next to the Quick Filter button to switch to Table View (see picture), enable the From column by right-clicking any column button, then click the From column button to sort on that field. Switch back to Cards View if desired.
