Our son, can be trusted, but his mates are a little feral.. We feel that he is being lead into some of the internet porn sites, and before they leave our home they delete history. We want to check up on him, without him knowing. How do I recall deleted history ? Thank you

Once history is deleted it's gone.

I have a fail-safe solution to your problem.. TAKE THE COMPUTER OUT OF HIS ROOM & PUT IT IN A PUBLIC AREA! No 12 year old should have a computer in his room.. it's like giving a 12 year old a cell phone & telling him to use it only for emergencies.. you're just ASKING for trouble, trustworthy or not. If you do not wish to remove it, there is plenty of parental control software out there.. eg. http://www1.k9webprotection.com/ (or just google it).. I'm sure you can get some for free; that would guarantee no porn.. :)

Bella71: there's no need to shout.

Bucky: Firefox works hard to make sure that its privacy settings work - so when history is deleted, it's gone. However, you can tell it's gone because it's not there - in other words, if you go to the computer after they've been using it and there's no history for the time they are using it, you can ask your son why not. And you can forbid him to delete the history.

However, the latest Firefox now has the ability to forget individual sites, so it may be harder to detect a "gap" in the history if they are smart about their deletions.

One solution might be monitoring software, as above - but a better solution is to move the computer to a public area of the house until you feel your son can be trusted with it. Technology can't solve relational problems :-)

Cheers Guy's I will bring the computer out into the Lounge room area. Also I will "google" in for intormation of tracking software, that can only be deleted, with the appropiate password.
