I am using firefos 3.6.13 and I recently noticed that the quality of the images displayed in this browser is significantly lower when compared to other web browsers, why is this so and how can I resolve it?

Whenever I view images on web pages (for example: flickr.com) the quality is significantly lower compared to viewing the same image on the same website in a different web browser.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in compatibility mode.
You can check that in the "Compatibility" tab in the Properties via the right-click context menu of the Firefox desktop shortcut.
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

Another possible cause is that your ISP sends images compressed to speed up the transfer. In such a case a JavaScript may be added to each page to make it possible to see images in the original quality.

I followed the first option and all the fields were already unchecked under the compatibility tab.

Make sure that you do not zoom the page: View > Zoom > Reset

Do the images show properly if you open them in a tab (right-click context menu: middle-click View Image) ?

The same poor quality is displayed. Below is a screen shot comparing an image displayed in firefox with another web browser.
