I am frequently being recommended to update my browser from version 2.0.0.20 to version 3.0.15. Is this appropriate for my Mac O SX 10.5.8? What about later versions such as 3.6?

For OS X 10.5.8 you can install Firefox 3.6.13. As you have an Intel Mac you will also be able to install Firefox 4 when it is released.
Thank you, TonyE for your prompt reply. In view of what you say I am now wondering why Firefox recommended 3.0.15 instead of 3.6.13. Any ideas, please?
No idea why you are not offered the latest version.
I get the same recommendation on WinXP when I Check for Updates... on the old Firefox 2.0.0.20 version I still have installed. It looks like the update server recommends the latest of "next" version that replaced Firefox 2.0.0.x, which was 3.0.x. That's the problem when a user doesn't stay current with Firefox and postpones updating thru almost 3 major versions. (3.0, 3.5, and almost thru 3.6)
