is Firefox 3.6 compatible with 64 bit PCs? Should there be a 64 bit version of Firefox, like a 64 bit version of Internet Explorer?

Firefox running normally in general, but here and there it freezes and I have to terminate the process with task manager; alternatively, I quit Firefox and it is shown as still running on the task manager

Yes, Firefox in 32 bit is compatible with 64 bit Windows and it works fine. Mozilla is working on a 64 bit version of Firefox, but it probably won't be released until Firefox 5. (Firefox 4.0 is still at least a month away from being released, so I wouldn't expect to see Firefox 5.0 in 2011.)

The 64-bit Firefox builds will only be for Firefox 4.0 on Linux and Mac OSX 10.5+
