Trying to update to 3.6.15 on an iMac G5 PowerPC 1.8M running OSX 10.5.8. When I try to copy to applications, I get the message "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges to some of the items" I am the sole Administrator on the Mac. What is my problem?

  • Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install.
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded.

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

Does updating from within Firefox help? See instructions here: Update Firefox to the latest release.

No, it still comes back with the message that I do not have sufficient permissions to update Firefox, but I'm logged in as an Administrator. got the feeling it may be an Apple problem.

You might want to take a look at this Apple support document about troubleshooting permissions issues in OS X: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2963 If you decide to use the terminal program to manually change the permissions on the Firefox program folder, be sure you get the syntax right. Read the article and the examples carefully before you start changing any permissions. Firefox is usually installed in /Applications/Firefox.app

Many Thanks. I got round the problem another way, but your answer showed me a more deep-seated problem, as I am not a "Root" User. Will be fixing that (very carefully) soon.
