I have recently lost many bookmarks because mobile version of firefox deleted all bookmarks on sync server and then my desktop firefox downloaded that info and deleted everything too. So I tried to restore them using one of the backups but every time I do it (I tried on 2 computers) all my unsorted bookmarks are gone and I lost the ability to add new bookmarks. Furthermore there are no bookmarks in the bookmark manager but the bookmarks on the toolbar are still there. It's very annoing. Is the backup function in Firefox 4 broken?

The utility 'MozBackup' - http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/- might not be able to recover what may already have been lost, but is an excellent way of guarding against any future losses, as well as making a re-installation of your OS (or migration to another computer) a snap. You can read more about MozBackup at http://www.ghacks.net/2011/03/13/mozbackup-updated-backup-firefox/

Hope this is helpful.

This can be caused by a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
