Why does the 8.0.1 version of Firefox want to disable my Norton IPS 3.0?

I cannot update my Firefox to the 8.0.1 version because it wants to disable my Norton IPS 3.0 due to incompatibility. This is the antivirus software I've been using for many evolutions of Firefox and the only protection I have for my computer. I don't understand why this should be a problem.

Thanks for the quick response, however, I have run live update many times and Firefox is still showing this Norton IPS 3.0 extension incompatible. I do not have a Norton toolbar so I'm not sure it would have anything to do with that. If I allow Firefox to disable this extension, will I still have the Norton protection for my computer? Would it be better to keep using Firefox 7.0.1? Also, is an extension different from an add-on?
