after upgrading to Firefox 9, it appears that I have lost the bookmark section of my toolbar. How can I retreive them?

I chose, unfortunately, to update my Firefox to a newer edition (9), and after restarting, I noticed that my regular upper toolbar on my homepage (TimeWarner RoadRunner) appeared totally different and no longer contained my "bookmarks" tab, where I had stored dozens and dozens of important bookmarks. How can I get that back, or if necessary go make to my older version of Firefox, and restore my previus settings and features?

Hi lombardo,

It sounds like the Bookmarks Toolbar - Display your favorite websites at the top of the Firefox window is just hidden. This is an easy fix. Just right click in the space next to a tab. In the context menu that comes up, enable the Bookmarks Toolbar.

Hopefully this helps!

Thank you for that quick, and easy to understand, response. I have found the original list of bookmarks, and while accessing it in a slightly different manner, I am so relieved that we did not permantly lose it. Thanks again!!!

This is somewhat close to my problem but the solution doesn't help at all. I am on FF 9.0.1 with Win7. (1) I have lost the capability to drag a favicon from a website to create a toolbar shortcut. I have messed around with Safe Mode (which is a crock btw since it does NOT really give you the same environment as you'd get by disabling all your add-ons) and about:config and nothing helps get this important capability back. (2) I'm also mad since you changed the new tab scheme; I can hardly figure out how to add a new tab at all! (3) The toolbar drop-down is worthless; turning the so-called bookmark toolbar off or on doews absolutely nothing at all! I may be a new Chrome booster soon if you guys keep this up!

If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key to make the menu bar appear.

Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"

  • Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize"
  • Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up
