How to I return the Firefox behavior of focusing on a new blank tab? Not the same as opening a link in a new tab.
In previous versions of Firefox, when I'd open a new blank tab by CTRL-T or clicking the "plus" button on the tab bar, Firefox would focus on the new tab. This isn't happening with Firefox 11, but I liked this behavior and would like to get it back.
It seems to be different from opening a link in a new tab, which at least for me has opened without gaining focus (I deselected the option to go to it immediately in the preferences awhile back, but the new tab behavior remained). I've searched through the preferences and have played with the Tab options, but came up empty. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

As far as I can tell, that's still the default behavior and isn't affected by preferences. Perhaps one of your extensions is causing this problem. Go to Firefox > Customize > Add-ons and try disabling any that impact tabs or tab behavior.

Firefox should open the new tab and set focus to the location bar in that new tab.
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Thanks a lot. The culprit turned out to be Webmail Notifier. Unfortunately, there seems to be some problems on their end that the developer has not yet responded to, but something about the extension is screwing up tab functionality.
Thanks!
Just my two cents addition since I was affected by this issue too: in my case it was the Super Tab Mode addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/super-tab-mode/?src=ss
Disabling it solved the issue.
I am gonna check also the author's method for solving tab focus issue and get back.
OK, it seems that this option (from the image) was the culprit.
To fix it, the option "open in background" has to be disabled too, even if the parent option (open bookmarks/history/searching in a new tab) is disabled.
Cheers.
